eClass Orientations and Student Workshops

The Office of Online Learning provides many eClass orientations and workshops for different student populations on campus. Please find the section that fits your interests for more information.

eClass Orientation for Adult Degree Completion Students

Attending an eClass Orientation is an excellent way to get started on the right track toward successfully earning your degree. Each orientation is hosted by the Office of Online Learning, is approximately one (1) hour in length, and is conveniently held immediately after the Office of Adult Degree Completion’s New Student Orientation. It is highly recommended that all students enrolled in the Hybrid Business and Hybrid RN to BS programs attend the eClass Orientation. Students enrolled in all other Adult Degree Completion Programs are also encouraged to attend.

Orientation Schedule

The Office of Adult Degree Completion and the Office of Online Learning team up to offer a number of student orientations throughout the academic year in advance of a new accelerated, hybrid, and/or online session. This is so students can get all the information they need to begin their courses or programs at one single on-campus meeting!  Please view the Online Learning Events Calendar at the bottom of this page to view the schedule of upcoming Adult Degree Completion eClass orientations.

Note: You are not required to bring a laptop or other personal computing devices for the orientation.

If you have any questions about Adult Degree Completion’s New Student Orientation, please contact the the Office of Adult Degree Completion at 845-569-3225. If you have any questions about the eClass Orientation, please contact the Office of Online Learning at 845-569-3457.

eClass Orientations for Graduate Students

If you are a new Graduate student at the Mount, you are encouraged to take an eClass Orientation. This orientation is specifically tailored to Graduate students about to embark on their degree program. This orientation takes place on-campus in a face-to-face classroom environment leading up to a new session or semester. For your convenience, multiple sessions at different times of day are usually offered. We will cover topics regarding the basic navigation of the learning management system (LMS) eClass and show you how it is most commonly used among graduate courses.

Upon enrolling into a fully online course, a notification about the OLSOT will become visible to you on upon logging in to the My MSMC Portal (my.msmc.edu). This notification will remain on your account until you successfully complete the OLSOT. To begin the OLSOT, follow the instructions given on the notification.

Note for Adult Degree Completion Students: You must complete the OLSOT if you decide to take a fully online course as part of your degree program, even if you previously participated in a face-to-face eClass orientation.

eClass/Moodle 101 for Students – A Self-Paced Practice Course

We have designed a 100% self-paced practice course for students who are interested in learning more about eClass independently. This self-paced practice course will introduce you to various features in an eClass/Moodle course that you may encounter during your studies. The practice course is typically assigned to you by default. You will find it within your “my Courses” list in eClass. It can also be located by clicking on the “Getting Started” link on the eClass homepage. Please note that completion of this practice course is not required, but highly recommended. It is not a replacement for a face-to-face eClass orientation that may be required by your degree program. You will not earn any academic credits for completing this practice course.
